Lucid Dream Books
2017 was an incredible year, with three new lucid dream books out, each with different publishing houses. Now I have two more books in the planning… there’s just so much to say on this rich subject. Over twenty years of lucidity research and a lifetime of lucid dreaming are packed into the biggest book, Llewellyn’s Complete Book of Lucid Dreaming. It’s a whopper, the size of at least two normal books, and filled with tips for navigating the lucid dream world. Then there’s a smaller, practical handbook for mindful and lucid dreaming called DreamTherapy: Dream your way to health and happiness. In the US and Canada, this is entitled Mindful Dreaming: Harness the Power of Lucid Dreaming for Happiness, Health and Positive Change. I also co-edited a book on children’s dreams and nightmares, Sleep Monsters & Superheroes. On this page you’ll also find my two lucid-dream-inspired novels, Breathing in Colour and Dreamrunner. And my brand new, so-new-it-hasn’t-been-published-yet book is The Art of Lucid Dreaming, a super-practical guide with a unique Lucidity Quiz and 15 individualised Lucidity Programmes as well as over 65 practices for getting and staying lucid and exploring this awesome world! It’s available for pre-order on Amazon already. There’s also a free e-book at the bottom of this page that you can download; Lucid Dreaming Stories & Tips. Enjoy!
Thank you to everyone who rushed out to get a copy of Llewellyn’s Complete Book of Lucid Dreaming – it has shot to #1 on the US Amazon’s bestselling hot new release chart!

A new way to get lucid? This lucid dreaming blanket is made from my author copies of Llewellyn’s Complete Book of Lucid Dreaming, created with the help of my daughter. Quite a heavy blanket as each book is so thick it weighs over a kilo… but what a great lucidity cue!

Mindful Dreaming: Harness the Power of Lucid Dreaming for Happiness, Health, and Positive Change
A practical guide to mindful and lucid dreaming
Every night, our dreams are trying to communicate with us. If we learn how to listen to them, they can reveal our deepest desires and fears, and offer creative solutions to our problems. By connecting mindfully with our dreams, we can use their wisdom to transform our lives for the better.
Dream Therapy (Mindful Dreaming) is packed with easy-to-follow exercises, case studies and helpful tips. It teaches us how to understand the symbolic language of dreams, wake up in our dreams, guide them to heal negative memories or grief, and experience wonderful adventures before waking up refreshed and reconnected. With the help of our dreams, we can lead happier, healthier lives.
Published in 2017 by Orion Spring, UK, and in 2018 with Conari Press, US/Canada.
Chinese, Italian, and Romanian versions to hit the shelves soon! Dream Therapy is also available as an audio book recorded in my voice.
Can anything beat that moment when you take your dream books sledging for the very first time? Dream Therapy lit up like a Christmas sparkler, the rainbow on Dreamrunner glowed against the snow, and although there was a tense moment when Sleep Monsters nearly fell off the sledge, all five books had a wonderful time (and yes, snow does make me get rather silly).
Dream Therapy came out in April 2018 in the US & Canada as “Mindful Dreaming”
Breathing in Colour
By Clare Jay (Dr Clare Johnson)
The story –
‘Your child is missing – presumed dead.’
Hours after receiving the phone call that every mother dreads, Alida Salter flies to India to search for her backpacker daughter. The discovery of disturbing lucid dream collages in Mia’s hotel makes Alida suspect a connection between the disaster which fractured their relationship thirteen years ago, and Mia’s recent, mysterious disappearance.
Mia is no ordinary girl. Growing up with the sensory condition synaesthesia – where she sees the world in a kaleidoscope of shapes, colours and smells – she has gone through life with the vivid imagination of an artist, but for years she has shouldered an overwhelming burden of guilt.
It has been a difficult relationship, but now comes the toughest test of all… Alida must find the courage to trust her maternal instincts and follow her dreams, or lose her daughter forever.

The story –
Her husband’s dreams are her family’s nightmare…
This is the story of a mother’s choice: to save her marriage or protect her child.
When Olivia’s husband Carlos begins having violent nightmares in which he leaps, fighting, from his bed and rampages through the house, her family’s idyllic life in Lisbon is shattered. Things escalate when Carlos unwittingly injures Olivia and Leo, their seven-year-old son, and they can no longer hide their bruises.
But what is causing the warm-hearted, gentle Carlos to have such explosive nightmares? While Leo retreats further into an imaginary world, it’s a question that sends Olivia – desperate to protect her son and rescue her floundering family – into the depths of her husband’s childhood, where she uncovers a secret so shocking it has held Carlos in its powerful grip for almost thirty years.
A novel about past trauma, the power of dreams, and the gift of lucidity.

Sleep Monsters & Superheroes: Empowering Children through Creative Dreamplay
Clare R. Johnson and Jean M. Campbell, Editors
If just one dream can give a child solace after bereavement or self-worth after abuse, what might be possible when we help children to work and play with their dreams on a regular basis?
Children can feel powerless in waking life, a fact that is often reflected in their dreams. This book shows how to take an active role in guiding children’s dreams to help grow their confidence and improve their coping skills for real-life difficulties. An all-star team of expert contributors provide simple techniques to help children to do dreamwork for creative discovery and empowerment.
Each chapter includes case studies and methods for working in practical ways with children, explaining what may trigger nightmares for children and how “monster” dreams can be guided to become “superhero” dreams. Experts discuss dreams of trauma, dreams as part of emotional and physical development, dreaming in the community, spiritual or religious dreams, lucid dreams, dreams during wartime, and dreams of death, among others. Dreams are shown to be teaching aids for use in art therapy, storytelling, and self-empowerment.
