Have you ever met your ‘cinema self’? I first heard this expression in Julia Cameron’s book The Artist’s Way. In her book it meant the best possible manifestation of yourself – the movie-star you.

The other night, I met my ‘cinema self’ in a more literal way at the premiere of ‘Painting Doors: The Art of Lucid Dreaming’ in Stuttgart, Germany. I had to lean back in my seat to escape from Giant Clare! Actually, seeing yourself that enormous is kind of strange, and a little uncomfortable, but I absolutely loved the wonderful special effects the Painting Doors crew created to visualise the lucid dreams of Melanie Schädlich, Simon Rausch, and myself. I had goosebumps at the end, when the door the lucid dreamer paints on a huge, forbidding wall opens…

The documentary won’t be out until it has premiered around various countries and film festivals, but here’s a link to a short ‘making of’ film. Here, among other things, you see how the crew did the special effects for my lucid void dream, by getting an actress to bounce up and down on a trampoline.
